Peter Andre: My Thoughts on the Sky News Interview

Yesterday afternoon Peter Andre appeared on ‘Afternoon Live’ on Sky News in order to talk about his upcoming tour and new album, yet the interview ended with the singer in tears after some tough questioning from Sky’s Kay Burley about his children.

The singer who has been nothing but a true gentleman since his tumultuous divorce from Jordan, better known as Katie Price, was asked by Burley several times how he would feel if his ex-wife's new husband wanted to adopt his two children. To be asked such questions just hours after learning via the media that Price had married lover Alex Reid in Las Vegas was nothing short of insensitive on Burley’s part.

While Andre may have been invited on the show to promote his album Unconditional Love Songs which is on release for Valentine’s Day Burley obviously had other questions on her mind.

After being nice and asking questions pretty much along the lines of what he was there to talk about Burley changed tact and began to push Andre about his thoughts on Alex Reid.

He said: 'I don't know the man, I've never met him. 'I couldn't care less, I'm so sorry, I'm not being bitter.'

Having not met or talked to Reid therefore how could Andre manage to form an opinion about him? Burley changed tact once more and showed a previous interview with former footballer Dwight Yorke, father of Price’s first child, Harvey.

In a clip, which Andre had been warned about but had not seen, Yorke accuses the singer of being "disrespectful" in his bid to adopt disabled Harvey, 7. That’s a bit rich coming from the man who doesn’t know the meaning of the word, and who has never once fought to be a father to his child.

An angry Andre responded by saying: "I asked to adopt him because I love him, not to be disrespectful. That angers me a little bit."

Of course Andre’s reaction led on to more probing questions about how he would feel if he was in the same situation with Alex Reid wanting to adopt his kids Junior, 4, and Princess, 2, which in my view was highly unfair of Burley to demand such answers just hours after learning about the marriage of Price and Reid.

A clearly distressed Andre replied: 'No one is going to take my kids away from me. And I will fight to the death for that.'

Teary-eyed, he eventually said: 'I'd rather just stop this if that's alright.'

While Burley may genuinely have not wanted to upset Andre her line of questioning I thought was very unreasonable. Writing on her blog last night she said: “I was mortified at having upset such an obviously doting family man and was keen to offer sincere apologies but he was his usual charming self.

As we stood and chatted about parenthood he said he was relieved he’d finally vented some of the pent up tension he’d been feeling and I sympathised but warned him not to ever cry in front of the children.”

Now, I’ve always liked both Katie Price and Peter Andre since they fell in love in the I’m A Celebrity jungle all those years ago, and I believe it was genuine love despite what Price may have had to say since the split. She is a very clever business woman and is worth a small fortune, but something else she also does very well is work the media which is why each and every time she opens her mouth to speak its most likely front page news.

I disagree with her actions and behaviour towards her ex-husband since the split but also think that there are two sides to every story and so far all we have heard is one way traffic. I commend Andre for his demeanour throughout the past couple of months. I also feel sorry for him and what he has had to put up with. It is all part of the business of being famous but there is also a line which has been crossed months ago.

But, let’s just say I for one am very much part of “Team Andre”

  1. Burley naturally is prob grateful for the publicity and I'm sure PA isn't a saint but to compare Harvey's biological father's parenting sentiment to Pete's is offensive to people who are hoping the UK's values aren't fazed out completely .

I enjoyed your post. It’s a lot like college – we should absorb everything we can but ultimately you need to take what you’ve learned and apply it.
